Otira

Chandos Road, Redland

? covers Reserve

Otira was opened in 2017 by Stephen Gilchrist and Kathryn Curtis, on Chandos Road in Redland -- the same two founders behind Shop 3 Bistro in Clifton Village, which this same research pass found appears to have closed permanently (see that row). Otira was not opened as a replacement after that closure; it has traded in parallel for around nine years, and with Shop 3 Bistro apparently gone, it now reads as Gilchrist and Curtis's sole confirmed trading restaurant rather than a second site alongside a flagship. The building holds two distinct spaces sharing one front door, divided by a wall: Otira's own dining room serves modern, innovative food inspired by Gilchrist's native New Zealand, while Chandos Social next door is an Argentinian-inspired tapas and cocktail bar -- genuinely different formats under one roof, which could suit either a seated dinner or a more relaxed sharing-plates evening depending on which side is used.

At around nine years old, Otira sits well outside the brief's "1 to 4 years" window, but the underlying signal -- a single chef-owner-led restaurant, still independent, still run by its founders -- is exactly what the brief is built around, and its TripAdvisor rating of 4.7 (per the existing research) suggests it has aged well rather than coasted. A Sunday-lunch feature on Bristol24/7 speaks to a kitchen still actively building its reputation on new formats, not resting on 2017's original concept.

The one thing this pass could not resolve, despite trying, is the exact same conflict the existing `fact` field already flagged: two independently pulled live-hours listings genuinely disagree on Monday and Tuesday trading, one showing both nights open 6 to 10:30pm, the other showing Monday through Wednesday closed with Thursday as the first service of the week. This is stated honestly as still unresolved rather than guessed at -- a direct phone call to Otira is the only way to settle it before any approach on an early-week night. Chandos Road itself is a compact, independent-shop-and-café strip in Redland, quieter and more neighbourhood-feeling than the Clifton Village or Whiteladies Road clusters nearby.
