Nutmeg has traded in Clifton Village since 2016, founded by Raja Munuswamy as an independent Indian restaurant built around a genuinely ambitious concept: its à la carte, "Menu 29," celebrates the regional cuisines of all of India's states, and a separate tasting menu rotates every two months to spotlight a different region -- a real point of difference from the more generic Bristol curry-house format. The room is boldly styled, colourful murals and imaginative decor throughout, and the restaurant has since spun off a smaller, tapas-style sibling, Nutmeg Street Kitchen, near the Hippodrome in the city centre -- a small, still founder-led two-site operation rather than a chain.

At around a decade old, Nutmeg sits well outside the brief's "1 to 4 years" window -- an established name, not a young one. Reviews are genuinely mixed: reviewers praise the diversity of the menu and attentive service, but a recurring complaint is that it runs more expensive than other Bristol Indian restaurants, worth flagging honestly rather than assuming universal acclaim.

The clearest structural issue for this series, independently confirmed directly against Nutmeg's own private-bookings page, is capacity: private dining spans an upstairs mezzanine and a downstairs backroom, but the minimum booking size across both is 14 guests, meaningfully above this series' 10-cover ask -- matching and confirming the existing research's flagged concern rather than resolving it. A table of exactly 10 would likely need a direct conversation about whether a smaller private booking is possible outside the advertised minimum, or whether the series would need to pay for capacity it isn't using. The Mall in Clifton is the village's main shopping-and-dining spine, a busy, well-trodden strip a short walk from the Suspension Bridge.
